Start with a stable base that meets your mattress manufacturer’s requirements. A firm upholstered platform can work well; the important part is how it supports the mattress, rather than a universal-compatibility label.
What the support surface needs
The mattress needs even support and a structure that does not sag or sit unevenly. For slatted bases, follow the mattress maker’s permitted slat width and gaps. Upholstery can cover different structures, so check what supports it underneath.
Fixed base or storage divan?
A fixed base keeps daily use simple. A storage divan provides room beneath the mattress but requires lifting its lid. Either should match the mattress size and have all supports correctly fitted.
For a 180 × 200 cm bed
The Pikolin Airbox 180 × 200 uses two 90 × 200 modules and adds bedding storage. Compare it if storage matters and you can handle a lifting lid. Choose the base separately from the mattress: matching dimensions alone do not confirm compatibility.

Remember finished bed height
Add the base, legs and mattress. Sitting on the edge should let you rest your feet and stand comfortably. A thick mattress on a tall base may feel awkward even when each component is suitable on its own.
Ventilation and everyday use
A 3D fabric lid allows airflow across its surface but does not replace room ventilation. Keep damp bedding out of storage and leave ventilation points clear. If your current base is level, stable and approved for your mattress, replacing it is not automatically necessary.
