If you already like your mattress feel and only need protection, choose a thin waterproof protector. Thick padding adds another comfort layer; an unpadded protector aims to preserve more of the feel you chose.
Protector, padded cover or topper?
A waterproof protector includes a liquid barrier. A padded cover adds softness but is not always waterproof. A topper is several centimetres thick and changes cushioning more noticeably. To protect without adding softness, look for a thin membrane and no filling.
An option for a 180 cm bed

Fit matters as much as fabric
This option is for a mattress 180 cm wide and 190 or 200 cm long. Measure everything the skirt must cover, including a topper if used. A tight cover may slip off; excess fabric can bunch beneath the sheet.
Will it feel hot?
A soft fabric and breathable membrane may feel more comfortable than a thick plastic cover, but a protector does not actively cool the bed. If heat is already a problem, avoid unnecessary filling and consider the duvet and bedroom ventilation too.
Simple care
Place it beneath the fitted sheet. Follow its washing label and let it dry before refitting; a damaged membrane cannot provide the same protection. Keeping a spare makes laundry days easier.
